When Prayer Feels Ordinary
A slower way to think about meeting with God when nothing dramatic is happening.

There are days when prayer feels alive. Words come easily. Tears come quickly. You feel especially aware of God’s presence. Those moments are gifts, and we should receive them with gratitude.
But most prayer is quieter than that. Most prayer is not dramatic. It is a person turning toward God before the day gets loud. It is a whispered sentence in the car. It is a tired parent asking for patience. It is a believer choosing honesty instead of performance.
Ordinary prayer is not failed prayer. It is faith refusing to disappear when the feeling fades.
God is not waiting for a performance
Jesus warned against prayer that performs for an audience. That matters because spiritual performance can sneak into even private moments. We can start measuring prayer by intensity, vocabulary, or emotion instead of honesty.
"Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us." — Psalm 62:8 (ESV, excerpt)
Pouring out your heart is not the same as sounding impressive. Sometimes it is messy. Sometimes it is silent. Sometimes it is one sentence repeated until your soul catches up with it.
- Start with what is true, not what sounds spiritual.
- Name what you are carrying without editing it first.
- Leave room for silence without treating silence as absence.
- Come back tomorrow, even if today felt small.
