Don’t Run From the Light

Don’t Run From the Light

I got my girls “faithGirlz” devotionals we are doing together. This was the verse we read tonight and the sentiment behind it in my own words…

The verse today was Genesis 3:8-9 New Living Translation (NLT)
8 When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man[a] and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. 9 Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

Sin/disobedience lead them to hide from the Lord when they heard His voice. The Lord knew where they were and what they had done, but He still was calling for them because they were His. I cant tell you how many people I have this conversation with… How when they feel ashamed they “hide” from the Lord even when He is calling their name. This is right where the enemy wants you alone and on an island feeling you have fallen so far even the Lord Himself is so ashamed in you He cant stand the sight of you. This couldnt be farther from the truth. The Lord knows all and sees all. He has seen every single mistake you have made. He has seen you at your worst and still he calls for you, still he knocks on your door. Still he chases after you and loves you.

John 8:34-36 New Living Translation (NLT)
34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

If you love Jesus He has set you free from sin. Why dont we embrace His offering? I think it is because we cant really grasp what true freedom is. I read this part in a Dare to Be devotional “After the emancipation of slavery, many slaves, stayed on the property, working for the same owner for whom they had been. It was familiar. It didnt require the risk of the unknown.”

Me again — Did you catch that?? they stayed with those that enslaved them! Even when they were free!

John 8:12 New Living Translation (NLT)
Jesus, the Light of the World
12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

If we are followers of Jesus we dont have to walk in the Darkness any longer! However we can still choose to walk in the dark, but stop doing that! We have a promise that we are FREE from sin and we NEVER HAVE to walk in the Dark again.. We CAN HAVE the LIGHT every second of every minute.

Last night my husband misplaced the remote to the TV he kept trying to find it in the dark. He took every blanket off and moved pillows and looked for 5 mins or so. He said well I give up I cant find it. I was like OH NO I have Olympics to watch. So I got up and turned on the light. Right when i did he said oh man I knew you were going to turn on the light. (granted he wanted to go to bed and turning the light on bothered that) Guess what happened when I turned on the light? I walked right over and found where it had been hiding slightly under the bed in the DARK!! The Light made it come out of hiding and in plain sight. We need the light to see and navigate. We step on legos in the dark but turn the light on and My feet thank me!

So, basically I am all fired up.. Let’s stop running from the Lord when we mess up and run to HIM. He has all the answers and we convince ourselves to stay away from the answer.. WHY.. Lets STOP… and remember he is calling us to Him and looking for us to respond to His voice. We are FREE from sin and we CAN walk in the LIGHT instead of the DARK..
